Take Action: Watering

Align Sprinklers

Some Effort

Adjust misaligned sprinklers to keep irrigation systems working properly

Sprinklers that water sidewalks or other areas that don’t need water create runoff and can damage outdoor structures like fences. Adjusting misaligned sprinkler heads to water appropriate areas cuts down on excess runoff and can save you money on water bills and repairs.

Runoff

Who Should Do This?

If you have a sprinkler system, you can do this action!

How Long Will It Take?

Depends on how many sprinklers need to be adjusted; typically, a single sprinkler adjustment can be completed in a couple minutes or less. Adjustments can be made at any time.

How Much Does It Cost?

You may elect to perform the work yourself or hire someone to help. Adjustments are fairly easy to complete on your own; search online by brand to find instructions. Adjustments are free if you do not need new parts.

What are the Benefits?

  • Prevents runoff
  • Prevents damage to fences, sidewalks, and other outdoor structures
  • Saves water by only watering areas that need it

What is Needed to Get Started?

  • Name of sprinkler brand
  • Shovel (as needed)
  • Flat head screw driver
  • Spray head pull up tool (if necessary)

Did You Know?

The majority of our water use goes to our landscaping – approximately 50% of our annual residential water consumption. Ensuring that your sprinklers are only watering areas that need it can reduce water waste and runoff, helping to lower our water use and keep our waterways clean.
