America Recycles Day is dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States. By recycling items, you can prevent items from ending up in our waterways and also reduce the impact on our landfills. Recycling ensures that these items are returned to raw materials and used again. Did you know that a recent study estimated that every year, 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in our oceans?* Here at H2OC, we also think recycling is an important way of keeping waste out of our waterways and improving the quality of our beautiful beaches.

So, how can you get involved?

  1. Take the Pledge – More than 75,000 people have taken the #BeRecycled Pledge. All you have to do is commit to recycling one (or many) type(s) of trash.
  2. Host or attend an event – Orange County hosted an event on November 10th, 2018 in Anaheim to celebrate America Recycles Day. Click here for an event recap or host your own event at home or work using the materials made available here.
  3. Refamiliarize yourself with what can be recycled – Ever wondered if a particular item is recyclable? Click here to find the contact details for city recycling coordinators across OC who will be able to answer your questions.

Although this day only comes around once a year, recycling should be an everyday activity, as it’s a big part of ensuring our communities remain a safe, clean and desirable place to live!
