How To Raise Stormwater Superheroes!
March 7, 2019
We all know that children are the future. They are tomorrow’s doctors, teachers, scientists and entrepreneurs. The children of today are also the future guardians of our environment. Fostering an understanding that our individual actions affect our local environment is an important message to impart. For children, this helps them to understand their lifelong role as environmental stewards. Here at H2OC, we believe that children play an important part in the protection of our waterways.
What you can do as a parent or guardian
There are lots of ways you can help your children understand the importance of runoff pollution prevention. You could start by teaching them how to recycle and properly dispose of trash, or by having them help with garden chores and explaining the ecosystem services plants provide. Or perhaps when you are out walking your family pet, let them know that picking up your pet’s waste helps to ensure we can all swim in the ocean safely. Children are sponges for information so make sure they soak up the right runoff pollution prevention practices!
How H2OC can help!
We want to help teach the children of Orange County about protecting our waterways. Head to our school education programs page to learn more about the different activities children can get involved in to become stormwater superheroes! We also created a free activity book for kids—click here to download your copy! Finally, with Earth Day on the horizon, check out our events page to see what’s happening in your local area to illustrate to children that what happens upstream, affects downstream.
Together, we can make a difference for generations to come!
